‘MARS presents’ is a flow on from our Battles.
It’s a resident MARSian and a guest artist.
Doing their thing, across two canvases, live and mildly interactively.
…
It’s a calmer affair than our battles, with more room for artists to do their thing as organically as possible infront of an audience.
This time round we’ve got resident MARSian Dale Mundey on one canvas and Daniel Qualischefski on the other.
They will create their piece live with a couple of opportunities for interaction between artists and audience which should result in unexpected elements for the artists to work into their piece.
The completed works will be available for purchase by way of silent auction, to no set reserve.
Each artist is also given a canvas to prep for the other, a week out from the session.
Metro is putting on their usual fare of fine foods and drinks.
Would love for you to come and join us.

MARS kicked off its biggest week of the year so far with Lewis Jone’s Explores session on Competition vs Collaboration, on Tuesday, May 24.
About 20 people turned out to the free workshop, funded by the Regional Arts Development Fund. And it was laid back brainfiller.
Lewis Jones is the Empire Theatre’s artistic director and he talked the room through his career path with nuggets of wisdom thrown in here and there. He pencilled out strategies on planning your vision to rule the world. Then broke it down with examples of when his own plans had come to pass as a result.

Wednesday night was the much anticipated return of MARS Alive: collaborative life drawing.
Guided by the nationally acclaimed contemporary artist, Damien Kamholtz, about 15 people set to their rendition of ‘Jacques’ our Shakespearean character sitting atop his tree-branch swing.
Our next MARS Alive is locked in for Wednesday, August 24. Cost is $12 or $10 concession.

The final MARS night for May was our popular MARS Battles, Thursday May 25. Resident Martians Jesse Wright and Lynden Thomas went head to head over eight rounds and under the dictator-like eyes of the MARS referee.
Punters got involved with some wicked suggestions that the martians had to incorporate and after loads of paint, a beaten up fish and some toe action, Jesse was named victor.
Musicians Alex and Mark set the tone awesomely and the first battle with the kitchen open delivered some pretty nom pizzas.
It was a painty, painty battle and went down to the (hanging) wire.
S’pect!
Next MARS battle, with live music, kitchen and bar service, kicks off 6pm Thursday, June 23.
